The Journey To Create My Covers

This is one of my earliest cover attempts. I started in May 25 and since then I've iterated hundreds of times. It was a daunting task. I watched as many tutorials and design guides as I could absorb. Eventually I landed on what I think are a pretty cool set of designs.
The idea for my covers was simple, in my mind. I wanted the set of three initially to be the same image with differing hues. Each colour represented a species in the story. Blue, for humans and the Noetherion, Green for the Kethari, Purple for the Zephar. On taking feedback, I developed and pushed the ideas further. Later including a woman's face. This was a key turning point for the design.
Having the woman's face opened up new dimensions of design in my mind. Instead of just changing the colour I wound up wanting a progression of the face. In the plot, Lina develops as a character into something more. I wanted to show that in the cover art by making her more complete as the series goes on. Additionally, I wanted the face to turn to the reader as the books progressed. I cannot believe how lucky I was to find the stock images inside Canva. The fact that they look similar and have blue eyes (Key to the plot), was amazing.
The colours I chose represent factions within the universe. So that element has always been a natural fit from early on. Through many iterations these covers came to life, all through the power of Canva and creativity, oh and a lot of time.
